An infant is recovering after being taken to the hospital with a 100 degree fever, covered in feces and “bumps.” The woman described as her caregiver has been charged.

Warrants show that Eugenia Kaye Waller, 32, of 9046 Old Lumberton Rd., Evergreen was released on a secured bond on a single charge of misdemeanor child abuse.

On July 10, the warrant states that the seven month old girl was taken to Columbus Regional for a high fever. She was also “covered from head to toe in feces with white pebble bumps” on her neck. The infant also had a large red blister on one buttock. The sheriff’s report said the child was in critical condition when she was taken to the hospital, and suffering from severe dehydration and infections.

Waller had been repeatedly advised to take the child to a doctor, the report said, but she refused, reportedly because she was waiting the child’s parent to be released from jail before seeking help.

Deputies and the Department of Social Services were called. The child ended up being treated for “cellulitus infection,” according to the warrant.

Waller is described in the warrant as a “friend of the family” who was responsible for the child’s care. The infant has since been placed with another family member under supervision of DSS.
