All but 14 dogs seized from a Hallsboro woman were returned to her Friday. Deborah Dahl, 70, still faces two felony and 19 misdemeanor charges of cruelty to animals. The previous 94 charges against her were dropped by the District Attorney’s office.

Some flood relief is a little bit closer for parts of Whiteville. City Council on Tuesday will get an update on an agreement between the city and RJ Corman Railroad to improve drainage along Canal Street. City Manager Darren Currie said in a memo that officials have submitted all the necessary paperwork to get permission to go under the railroad. As soon as that application is approved, the city will begin enlarging the drain tiles under the railbed.

Currie also said that the city is looking into other funding sources after five million dollars in federal money was frozen for the Mollies Branch project.
