A Whiteville bandit who allegedly robbed Walmart and two dollar stores in 2014 before fleeing to Florida is awaiting trial here. Andre Freeman, age 36, continued his criminal career in the Sunshine State, where he was caught and convicted for the same crimes.
Friends, family and fellow classmates gathered Saturday night to mourn Landyn Jacobs. The rising East Columbus Junior died in an early morning crash Thursday. His family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville. A funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at East Columbus High School auditorium. Burial will be in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Bolton.
More details have been released in the arrest of Whiteville City Councilwoman Helen Holden. Whiteville Police Chief Paul Rockenbach said in a statement that officers observed Holden run a red light on JK Powell Boulevard, and arrested her a short distance away.
