News Briefs for August 29, 2025
The Labor Day Booze It and Lose It campaign kicks into high gear today as the Labor Day weekend gets underway. Law enforcement will be operating sobriety checkpoints and intense patrols looking for impaired and unsafe drivers across the area.
Remember that On the Road, On the Water is also going on through Monday. The impaired boating enforcement effort is coordinated with the Booze it and Lose it drunk driving crackdown by Troopers and local law enforcement. Boating and driving while impaired carry the same penalties. Drunk boating accidents have a statistically higher chance of causing injuries and fatalities.
It’s going to be a busy Labor Day weekend in our area. The Columbus County Farmers Market will be at the Veterans Memorial Park of America tomorrow. The park will also be hosting a “Rockathon” on the porch of the new veterans service center and community building. The park is at 6354 James B. White Highway S., Whiteville.
The Lake Waccamaw Community Yard Sale officially starts Monday at 7:00 a.m., but some vendors always set up Saturday and Sunday. Just look for the flags, find some secondhand treasures and maybe even make some new friends.
