The World Series Champion Central Columbus Angels will be honored by a parade through Whiteville at 9 a.m.

The procession will go from Roses shopping center to the historic courthouse and back through downtown to the shopping center. Sheriff Bill Rogers and the sheriff’s office will escort the Angels on their victory lap.

“These young women are proof that when you put in the work and believe in each other, you can accomplish greatness,” Rogers said.

Central Columbus took home the Dixie Softball Angels title by downing South Carolina 5-3 on Tuesday. To help with the travel to Louisiana, the N.C. Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission awarded the Columbus Dixie Youth Board a $5,000 grant. The board stated they were thankful for the grant and it would be used to pay for team’s hotel expenses.

While the Angels won it all, Columbus County had multiple teams in championship play for their leagues.

Riegelwood Dixie 8-U fought three rounds in their World Series in Dunn and were undefeated State Champions. Riegelwood 6-U showed dedication and poise winning the state title by downing Mt. Pleasant and Stanley.

South Columbus Ponytails took their state title to Monroe, La. and also did a fantastic job representing North Carolina.

The Ponytails came in second in their bid for the national banner, although they took the state championship. (contributed)
