
The suspect in a July murder near Tar Heel has been arrested in Wake County.
Elijah Jamal Dixon, 19, of Clinton was arrested Wednesday during a traffic stop in Wake County, according to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held on felony drug charges in Wake and will be returned to Bladen to be arraigned for murder.
Bladen Sheriff Jim McVicker said deputies from Robeson and Bladen responded to an area near a trail ride in July after reports of a shooting. They found Samir Register, 20, dead beside the road. The incident occurred near the county line, and initial reports said Register had been shot in St. Pauls.
During the course of the investigation Dixon was identified as a suspect and detectives obtained warrants for first degree murder. He was arrested on narcotics charges in Wake County,
