Coach Talk: The Central Columbus Angels

The World Series champions rode through Whiteville in style courtesy of the Columbus County Sheriff's Office.

Last week, the Central Columbus Angels made history by winning the X-Play World Series Championship in Ruston, La.

They defeated South Carolina 5-3 to take the title. The Angels finished the season 14-1, behind stout pitching and stiff defense. The Central Columbus Angels had a parade through Whiteville in their honor Saturday, after which I got to sit down with the team and ask them a few questions.

TT: Good morning! Congratulations on your championship.

CC Angels: Thank you!

TT: What is your favorite pre-game meal?

Isabella Nealy: Chicken nuggets and peanuts.

TT: What is your favorite sports movie?

Paiseleigh Floyd: The Sandlot.

TT: What made practices fun?

Briley Morrison: Coach Locklear.

TT: Who is your favorite sports hero?

Parker Dippel: Karlyn Pickens, softball pitcher for Tennessee.

TT: What three things do you like being on a team?

Chloe Hagood: Friendship, hard work, and sportsmanship.

TT: What emotions do you feel when your “in the zone” playing?

Karli Sullivan: I can’t describe it. Great.

TT: What do you do to calm your butterflies during a ball game?

Mia Benton: Chew lots of Hubba Bubba.

TT: What was your favorite jam you listened to on you championship run?

Coach Locklear: Pink Pony Club.

TT: What was going through your mind with the bases loaded and you came to the plate?

Layken Lancaster: I wanted to help the team, but I thought about my cousin that passed two years ago. I thought, no matter what happens, this is for you, I did it for her.

TT: What was your team mantra (saying) during the championship run?

Aubrey Floyd: It’s impossible until it’s done!
