In Dublin Wednesday, the East Bladen Soccer squad squeezed out a win 2-1 against West Bladen.
The Eagles (1-2-2) got their first victory of the year. The Knights fell to 0-2-1 on the season.
Tevin McLean scored a goal in the first half to put the Eagles 1-0. Andrio Garcia hit Ishaq Algozy to put East Bladen up 2-0 in the second. West Bladen’s Alejandre Sandoval scored for the Knights to make it a 2-1 final.
Eagles Coach Jay Raynor said the real play of the game was West Bladen’s Coach Brett Jackson, Jonah Bryan, and the Knights stepping in to disallow a goal awarded to West Bladen. Coach Raynor called that “Sportsmanship.”
The referee had called a goal awarded to West Bladen, but the Knights told them it was not, thus reversing the call and potential game results.
East Bladen will play at Whiteville (0-3-2) Sept. 2. West Bladen travels to Leland to face North Brunswick (5-2) on Tuesday.
In other scores, Whiteville lost to West Brunswick (2-1) on Wednesday 2-0. They will host East Columbus (1-0) on Thursday.
