Wesley Keith Carroll, 44, of 1676 N.C. 211 W., Clarkton, was held under a $75,000 bond in the Columbus County Detention Center. He faces charges from Columbus, Bladen, Robeson, Richmond and Scotland counties, including four counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle; three counts of breaking, entering and larceny; property damage, and two parole violations.
Columbus and Bladen deputies took him into custody Wednesday, according toa press release.
Deputies were called to investigate a stolen car near N.C. 211 in Bolton on Monday, the release said. Investigators discovered another vehicle at the scene that had been abandoned. It was later confirmed to have been stolen out of Scotland County
Working with officials from the Richmond, Scotland, Robeson and Bladen sheriff’s offices, along with the N.C. Department of Probation and Parole detectives were able to identify Carroll as the suspect responsible for a multi-county crime spree. Arrest warrants were obtained, and a joint operation between Bladen and Columbus County deputies led to Carroll’s capture and the recovery of the stolen vehicle reported from Columbus County.
Investigators are returning stolen property to residents of Columbus, Scotland, Richmond, and Robeson Counties. Carroll is currently being held at the Columbus County Detention Center under no bond, due to probation and parole violations.
“This case is an excellent example of what can be accomplished when agencies work together for the common good,” Sheriff Bill Rogers said. “By sharing resources and information, we were able to stop a multi-county crime spree, recover stolen property, and deliver justice for victims across several counties. I want to thank all the assisting agencies and the Columbus County District Attorney’s Office for their role in bringing this case to a successful close.”
