
The second suspect in a child abuse case that left an infant in UNC Hospital has been arrested.
Wayne Joseph Keinzle, 31, of 95 Lake Park Dr., Chadbourn, was taken into custody Aug. 8. He faces one count each of felony negligent child abuse inflicting serious injury and intentional child abuse, inflicting serious injury. His bond was set at $503,500 according to court records.
The 11-month-old girl was admitted to Scotland Memorial Hospital July 31 with multiple injuries to the face and body. The child was suffering seizures and was transferred to UNC Hospitals in serious condition. Scotland hospital contacted Columbus County authorities.
Hali Canter, 31, also of Lake Park Drive, was arrested Aug. 5 on a charge of felony negligent child abuse inflicting serious injury. She was held under $50,000 secured bond. Keinzle avoided law enforcement for several days.
The child was diagnosed with “potential chronic trauma and seizure activity,” according to warrants. He condition was not immediately available.
