Spruell “Randy” Britt

January 24, 1947 ~ August 11, 2025 (age 78)

Spruell Randolph (Randy) Britt of Fair Bluff, North Carolina who was born on January 24,1947, died August 11,2025. He was the son of the late Spruell and Annie Page Britt. Randy is survived by his wife, Jane Page Britt; son, John Pate (Leigh Ann) of Marietta, NC; daughter Weatherly Cook (Ross) of Chapel Hill, NC; brother Johnny Britt (Jeanne) of Whiteville, NC.; two sisters, Betty Inman (Robbie), and JoAnn Hitzemann of Fort Mill, SC. Also surviving are grandchildren; Anna Pate Jenkins (William), Chloe Pate Young (Jacob), John Thomas Pate III, Lottie Cook, and one great grandson Thayer Young.

A graduate of Fair Bluff High School, Randy received his Business degree from UNC Chapel Hill, which led him to a lifetime merchant and co-owner of B.H. Small Company following in the footsteps of his Uncle Broadus Small and father, Spruell. It was there at “The Store” on Main Street Fair Bluff, that rooted Randy into the town and outlying communities. He became a town and county commissioner and mayor. His love for Fair Bluff cannot be overstated. Randy served on numerous boards including Southeastern Community College Foundation and Board of Trustees, Columbus County Farm Bureau as well as the NC Farm Bureau State Board. His civic services include Fair Bluff Rotary Club, Fair Bluff Fire Department and Rescue Squads, The Committee 100, and Fair Bluff Chamber of Commerce. Randy was involved in the Fair Bluff Library, Beautification Committee, and proudly helped with the construction of Fair Bluff’s River Walk. He recently received the ” Order of the LongLeaf Pine” award, the highest award bestowed on a citizen in the state of North Carolina.

Randy was a lifelong member of Fair Bluff Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Finance Committee. His work and love of the church is unsurpassed.

Memorial services celebrating Randy’s life will be held at the Fair Bluff Baptist Church, Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 11AM. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fair Bluff Baptist Church, P.O. Box 217, Fair Bluff, NC 28439 or a charity of your choice that promotes the enrichment of the Town of Fair Bluff or Columbus County.
