How has your summer been treating you? It has certainly been a hot one! We hope you all have found some time to enjoy the summer break with kids and other family.
Many area youth have already returned to school while others go back on Aug. 25.
Parents, if you are still looking for bargains, keep your eyes open for those Back-to-School sales featuring various supplies and clothes. #TryTaborCityFirst for all of your shopping needs. Let’s continue to #ShopLocal with those who support our endeavors.
The GTC Chamber of Commerce will be bringing back your holiday favorites. We dive into those plans once the N.C. Yam Festival has wrapped up so stay tuned.
Speaking of the Yam Fest, please know that this Chamber offers its assistance as much as possible as does the Tabor City Public Library, aka Yam Fest Headquarters.
Sponsorships for this year’s festival are available, so if you are interested in gaining publicity and promoting your business, organization, etc. while supporting the festival, please let us know by reaching out by email or phone at ncyamfest@gmail.com , 910.377.3248 or 920.840.0292
Don’t forget that the next Yam Fest event is the Scholarship Pageant. Applications are available online via the website at ncyamfestival.com, for pick up in person at the Yam Fest Headquarters (aka Tabor City Public Library), the Yam Fest Office, the Tabor City Visitor Center, or from the pageant co-directors, Shauna Cox and Melody Spivey.
There is an Application Drop Off event for potential contestants on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at the Tabor City Visitors Center from 6-7 p.m. You may pick up and turn in applications during this timeframe. You will also be able to ask any questions you may have at this meeting event.
You may also turn in applications (including a photo for the newspaper) at the Tabor City Public Library prior to the deadline. The Application Deadline is Friday, Sept. 12.
The N.C. Yam Festival Scholarship Pageant is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, at South Columbus High School.
The Yam Festival is still accepting applications for vendors of all types. They already have several new food vendors in addition to some favorites. Same with crafts, etc. The festival is telling us they are hearing from new vendors in addition to those our community always looks for.
The free KidsZone will be in a new location and there are few additions to the live entertainment lineup. More details on that and more in the next column. The N.C. Yam Festival appreciates our Chamber for sharing Yam Fest info and for other assistance.
We’d like to remind you that the GTC Chamber of Commerce is your Chamber. We look forward to serving our community. This is a membership driven organization.
