Truck Thief Leads Chase to Tabor

Deputies and Tabor City Police worked together to stop an admitted truck thief early Monday.

Camden Luke Caraballo, 18, was held under $10,000 secured bond. He was charged with fleeing to elude arrest, larceny of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering a vehicle, reckless driving, driving without a license and multiple traffic violations. His address was listed as 3940 Haynes Lennon Hwy., Chadbourn.

The report said that deputies were operating a checkpoint at James B. White Highway South and Lebanon Church Road when Caraballo failed to stop, and drove around the deputies. He fled at a high rate of speed, striking and damaging a mailbox as he headed toward Tabor City.
Tabor City Police deployed tire deflation devices at the intersection of Joe Brown and James B. White highways, the report said. Caraballo came to a stop near DMA Industries.

He was taken into custody without incident, the report said, and admitted to stealing the truck from the Food Lion shopping center in Chadbourn. The truck sustained around $2,000 in damages.
