
Deputies stopping a BMW automobile for alleged stolen plates ended up with two arrests and a quantity of marijuana Friday.
Marvin Goodman, 57, and Gerald Lamont Hemingway. 52, were arrested after a brief chase and foot pursuit on Georgia Pacific Road, according to sheriff’s reports. Goodman gave his address as 33 Phillips St., Fair Bluff. He was charged with resisting an officer and served with a warrant for failure to appear from Robeson County. He was held under $1,500 secured bond.
Hemingway gave his address as 103 Dogwood dr., Chadbourn. He was charged with fleeing to elude arrest, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, paraphernalia and resisting an officer. His bond was set at $10,000.
A deputy initiated a traffic stop on Georgia Pacific Road near Whiteville after the plates on Hemingway’s BMW were listed as stolen. Hemingway stopped but allegedly sped away before the deputy could exit his vehicle.
The car stopped at a residence near a wooded area, the report said, and three individuals jumped and ran. Hemingway and Goodman were detained.
Deputies found 184 grams of marijuana, digital scales and cigar wrappers used to roll marijuana “blunts” in the car. The car was seized.
