Here’s today’s Bottom Line

A cold front has dropped south over the area and has become stationary over south-central Georgia extending off the coast. Several little waves of low pressure will ripple along this front today through Saturday into Sunday, lifting up the coast and pushing the front back into our area.

Meanwhile a much stronger cold front will push off the coast by early Monday morning.

All of this will lead to shower and thunderstorm chances Saturday and Sunday, tapering off on Monday.

STRONG Canadian high pressure will dominate the weather over much of the eastern half of the country through much of next week. This will lead to the first real stretch of DRY weather and COOLER TEMPERATURES lasting nearly all of next week.

Tropics:  Three areas to watch in the Atlantic, but at this time none will be threats to the mainland US.

There has been no change since yesterday’s report on the first system. It’s likely to become a tropical depression or tropical storm within the next few days and begin a northerly track over the central Atlantic. No threats.

The second wave now has a 50% chance of developing into a tropical system over the next few days. The modeling is all over the place with the eventual track of this system, with some of the longer-range runs bringing it south of the islands and possibly into the Gulf… or a northerly track following essentially where Erin and system #1 are going.

There’s a third area but that honestly isn’t even worth talking about. Even if it takes on tropical characteristics, it won’t be around for long and certainly no impacts.

Of the three, the second one bears watching the most, but we’re 10 days or more away from having to worry about it.
