Barefoot Child Found Beside Road; Mother Charged

Deputies charged a woman with misdemeanor child abuse after her daughter was found walking down a roadside Sunday, crying and barefoot.

Dusty Brooke Earp, 28, of 9542 Andrew Jackson Hwy., Cerro Gordo, was charged with a single count of misdemeanor child abuse, and held under a $5,000 secured bond, according to detention center reports.

Deputies were dispatched to Conway Road near Fair Bluff after a 911 call about an 11 year old girl walking beside the road. The call was dispatched at 1:38 p.m.

The report said the girl was found without shoes and crying, according to the report.

“The child reported she had had been put out of the vehicle by her mother following unsafe driving behavior,” the report said.

Deputies later made contact with Earp and determined she had been drinking, according to the report. The girl was turned over to her father, and the Dept. of Social Services was notified.
