Following is an edited transcript of this week’s Columbus Connection. Dissenting opinions are welcome. See our letters to the editor section for information.
A lost, misguided soul shot up a church school full of little kids last week. Law enforcement investigators have found signs of mental illness in the suspect’s past, who as a teenager was thrust wholeheartedly into transitioning from a boy to a girl by his parents.
School shootings are horrible enough, under any circumstances, but in this case, the young man’s mother worked there. His manifesto showed that he fantasized about killing children and being famous.
It’s easy to poke a finger of blame in these circumstances, especially if one is not on the ground where the blood was shed, or if one doesn’t have the whole story. We have enough of the story, however, that I am confident when I say that his parents bear much of the responsibility for laying the groundwork for this tragedy.
They not only neglected to get their mentally ill son the care that he needed, but they affirmed that mental illness, making it possible for him to begin “transitioning” to a woman in his teen years. He was apparently a frequent user of marijuana, which is often an indication of self-treating mental illness. It doesn’t help that the great state of Minnesota is desperately trying to become a snowier version of San Francisco when it comes to all things counter-culture, whether it’s legalization of drugs, demonization of family values, or promoting the LGBTQ agenda. It was Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, remember who wanted to put feminine hygiene products in every boy’s bathroom in America if he was elected vice president.
When the news broke last week, people on the left immediately began blaming guns for the tragedy; they conveniently refer to the suspect as “she” and “Her”, thus supporting his mental illness as an excuse for his evil actions. The suspect lied on his application to purchase his firearms, since the federal form asks about mental health issues, and he answered no.
Add to that the fact that Minnesota is a very anti-gun state; therefore, in this case, a mentally ill individual managed to evade the system and illegally purchase a firearm, both by lying on the federal form (that’s a crime) and then lying on the state application (another crime) so he could commit more crimes.
Minnesota has so-called red flag laws, which mean any complaint, however spurious, can be worded in such a way that law enforcement will raid a person’s home and take their firearms, without a typical search warrant and probable cause. Simply frightening someone, or saying the wrong words are grounds for a red flag report in Minnesota. The alleged victim didn’t have to threaten anyone with a firearm.
The individual then has to prove that the red flag was not warranted. Red flag laws, by the way, have resulted in several deaths since they were put into place, always of the quote unquote suspect. In at least two, the individuals were elderly who were shot to death when strange men burst into their homes in the night brandishing firearms. How would you react? The law enforcement officers were put in a no-win situation as well, having only the word of someone on an unsworn document that said the target is dangerous. So do police executing an unconstitutional order go in and wait to be shot by a potentially dangerous person, or do they react as their training has taught them in a situation where there may be someone waiting to ambush them on the other side of a door?
Of course, there’s no way laws will stop someone bent on owning a firearm from obtaining one, even if they have to do so illegally. We have thousands of armed gang members in this country whose concern for gun laws is contempt and nothing more. They don’t go to the gunshop and fill out a form – they steal them, or purchase them from straw buyers whose job it is to provide firearms to people adjudged unsafe to own a gun. There’s no reason in the world that a mentally ill person intent on killing couldn’t do the same thing.
Police records show a small number of visits to the family home as well as the suspect’s home. Reasons for the call for service included words like mental health and criminal offense, but details were redacted. It has been admitted by officials that the red flag laws were ignored because the shooter was transgender.
This young man’s family failed; they proudly shared on social media how they were encouraging their son to decide to be a daughter, to the point of helping him legally change his name to a female name.
Was this an isolated incident? Hardly.
Twelve other mass shooters, including the one in Uvalde, Texas and the school murders in Tennessee, involved mentally ill youth or young adults; at least half had decided to change sexes, either with or without the assistance of parents. While I could not find data on all of them, several were on hormone therapy to facilitate their transition.
News flash, people: it is biologically impossible, regardless of surgery, implants, drugs and therapy, to change a male into a female, or vice versa. On top of that, attempting to redirect the natural process of growth in adolescents and children by slamming them full of hormones does nothing more than create a young adult with serious mental issues.
It’s amazing how the left has embraced the whole gender identity thing, to the point that laws have had to be passed, even in our state, prohibiting sex change operations in children. Not just teens, but children.
If an adult wants to mutilate themselves and take a toxic chemical blender to their internal chemistry, that’s their choice. It’s obviously the wrong one, since the results are never what the individual expects, but it’s still the wrong choice. Thankfully there are more and more laws preventing public funds from being used for this very private choice. With every choice comes consequences.
Regardless of my religious convictions – most of you likely know them by now – allowing children to decide they are the opposite sex, or no sex, or all sexes, or that they need to relieve themselves in a litter box—all that does is encourage mental illness. Fueling that mental illness with praise and adoration, then supplanting it with drugs and surgery, whether publicly or privately financed – that’s child abuse, pure and simple. Again, adults can make their own decisions, and pay for those decisions, too.
Any adult who has their daughter undergo a mastectomy and her genitals rebuilt at 13 years of age, or has their son castrated and shot full of estrogen to make him a girl – that individual is as evil as the worst child abuser in the worst prison. The same goes for the so-called health care professionals who agree to do these politically correct acts of torture, in exchange for a small fee, of course.
It’s a parents’ job to guide their children, not affirm that they are a housecat or that God made a mistake when he made them male or female.
It is not hatred of an individual to point out that the social-media driven frenzy of gender dysphoria is mental illness. Indeed, it’s truly an act of love. The hatred is in the hearts of those who send children down a road of mental illness, horror and death, often for others as well as themselves, in the name of inclusion.
If your child wanted to play in a busy street, would you let them? Of course not.
Then why would anyone mutilate their children to gain social justice points?
Because there’s likely some mental illness in the adults, too.
