Commissioner Arrested for Larceny

County Commissioner Giles “Buddy” Byrd has been arrested on a charge of misdemeanor larceny.

Byrd, 76, was released on a $500 unsecured bond, charged with a single count of misdemeanor larceny. His address was listed as 1941 Giles Byrd Rd., Hallsboro.

The warrant alleges that Byrd took a five-gallon bucket of hydraulic fluid, valued at $135, from Angela Fields on Aug. 31. He was arrested and charged Sept. 2. The alleged incident was caught on a security camera in the Tar Heel area.

Byrd is due in Bladen County District Court on Sept. 30 on the case.
