An adolescent is facing petitions and the mother of his alleged victim was charged with disorderly conduct after a fight at Central Middle School Tuesday.
Kenya McMillan, 40, of 110 W. Calhoun St., Whiteville, was charged with disorderly conduct and released on a $2,500 secured bond, according to detention center reports.
Another child was referred to Juvenile Justice, and a petition for simple assault is being considered.
The sheriff’s office reported that the victim in the case, McMillan’s child, sustained a broken tooth after allegedly being struck with a drum mallet. The school nurse provided immediate aid and preserved the tooth for emergency dental care. McMillan refused to leave the school when instructed to do so by the School Resource Officer and school staff. When she finally did leave the campus, the report said, she went to the suspect child’s home and blocked traffic. She was arrested at the child’s home and processed for disorderly conduct.
The school system banned McMillan from campus.
