East Bladen Downs Vikings 54-28

ELIZABETHTOWN— East Bladen used its powerful ground attack to pound out 388 yards in its 54-28 victory over West Columbus Friday night.

Dashon Campbell got 173 yards on 16 carries to go with three touchdowns, while teammate Jaden Lewis had 175 yards on 21 carries to go with his 2 TDS.  Campbell gave the Eagles the early lead with a five-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion made it 8-0 East Bladen with 7:53 left in the first quarter.

Julius Battle added to the Eagles’ lead with a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown. Keyshaun Kemp ran in the two-pointer to give East Bladen a 16-0 advantage.

The Vikings retaliated on the first play on the next drive when D.J. Graham ran it 58 yards to the house to put the Vikings on the board. The two-point conversion failed to make it 16-6 Eagleswith 1:12 left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Lewis extended the Eagles lead with a 20-yard run into the endzone. Campbell’s two-point conversion put the Eagles up 24-6. With 12 seconds to go in the half, Campbell found the goal line again from five yards out, then converted the two-point conversion to give East Bladen a 32-6 lead at the half.

West Columbus came out strong in the third quarter. Jahan Lesane-Powell scored from one yard out to put the score 32-12. East Bladen fumbled on the second play on their next drive letting Vikings’ Charlie Mcleod find D.J. Graham from 36 yards out to make it 32-20 with Antonio Vereen’s two-point conversion pass to Charlie McLeod.

The Vikings then recovered the fumbled kickoff at the East Bladen 30-yard line. Graham found Vereen for a 11-yard touchdown pass with 4:14 left in the third quarter to put the score 32-28 East Bladen.

The closeness of the game must have awakened the Eagles as Jaden Lewis took the kickoff 75 yards to put East Bladen up 40 -28 with Campbell’s two-point conversion. East Bladen added to their lead in the fourth quarter with a 12-yard touchdown run to make the score 46-28. Lewis added a 15-yard run for a score with 3:35 left in the game. Keyshaun Kemp added the two-point conversion to make it 54-28 Eagles.

East Bladen goes to 1-0 in the Carolina Conference and 4-1 overall. They will Host Hobbton (1-0, 2-3) in a conference matchup next Friday.

The Vikings fall to 0-1 in the conference and 0-4 overall. They will host Lakewood (1-0, 3-3) on Sept. 26.
