State and local authorities are investigating Saturday’s fire that killed four children near Chadbourn, and more information is expected today.

Ansley Hayes established a GoFundMe with the permission of the family to help with final expenses. The address is https://gofund.me/aae34414.

The children are identified in the fundraiser as Kendall, Kalani, Josie and Sophia. Their older sister Winter and a friend survived. Their mother, Reagan Powers, was not home at the time of the fire.

Columbus County Fire Marshal Shannon Blackman said he is meeting with Sheriff Bill Rogers today and a statement will likely be released after that.

No adults were present when four girls, ages 2,4, 6, and 7, died when their home on North Colony Road burned around 3 a.m. Saturday. Two 12 year old girls escaped the fire. A deputy and a Chadbourn rescue crew returning form a call were on the scene in minutes, but the home was completely engulfed.

Local authorities are working with the State Bureau of Investigation and Office of the State Fire Marshal to determine the cause of the fire. The four children were sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies.
