A Mount Olive community teen was rescued from a man authorities called a “predator” after he allegedly took the child from her Columbus County home.
Brian Keith Riley, 64, is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under no bond. He is charged with felony crime against nature, indecent liberties with a child, and statutory sex offence with a child under 15. He faces first degree kidnapping charges in Columbus County, according to the sheriff’s office.
The CCSO Special Victims Unit was contacted Monday about a reported missing juvenile in the Mount Olive community, according to reports. Family members found the 15 year old girl was gone and called 911 at 5:39 a.m., the report said.
Detectives launched an “aggressive investigation,” and developed leads that took them to Fayetteville, where they contacted Fayetteville Police and executed a search warrant on an apartment in the city. The child was rescued from the suspect and taken to an area hospital for medical evaluation.
Riley was arrested at the scene, the CCSO said in a press release. Additional charges are anticipated.
Sheriff Bill Rogers thanked the Fayetteville Police for their assistance.
“Our children are our most valuable gift, and no one should ever threaten their safety or innocence,” he said. “The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office will always do everything in our power to protect them. I am deeply proud of our investigators and thankful for the teamwork with Fayetteville Police that made this swift recovery possible.”
