
Wednesday is a day the soccer games are usually scheduled in high school, but this week it was a day local high school soccer coaches wished was not on the schedule.
All the area schools lost in men’s soccer on Wednesday.
In Calypso, North Duplin shut out West Columbus 9-0. The Rebels (1-3, 2-4) were led by Cristian Velasquez with a goal and Dallas Torres contributed an assist. West Columbus falls to 0-6 in the Carolinas Conference and 0-6 overall. The Vikings will face Whiteville (2-10-2) in a non-conference match at home Tuesday. The Rebels host Lakewood (3-3, 3-9) on Monday.
In Tabor City, South Brunswick blanked South Columbus 9-0. The Cougars (3-0, 6-5-3) were paced by Logan Sanders with two goals and Jason Barradas contributed a goal and an assist. South Brunswick will host Pender (3-6-2) in a non-conference battle today. South Columbus goes to 0-2 in the Southeastern Conference and 1-10 overall. They will travel to West Bladen (1-1, 3-7-1) on Monday.
In Salemburg, the Lakewood Leopards stunned East Bladen 1-0. The Eagles fall out of a first place tie with the loss. The Eagles (3-1-1) will host East Columbus (2-3, 4-5) in a Carolina Conference matchup on Monday.
Lakewood goes to 3-3 in the Carolina Conference and 3-9 overall. They travel Monday to play North Duplin (2-3, 2-4).
In Red Springs, the Red Devils got the better of West Bladen 3-1. The Knights fall to 1-1 in the conference and 3-7-1 overall. They will host South Columbus (0-2, 1-10) in a Carolina Conference matchup on Monday. Red Springs is now 2-1 in the conference and 7-6 overall. They will go to Whiteville (0-3, 2-10-2) on Monday.
St. Pauls took down Whiteville 5-1 at home Wednesday, 5-1. St. Pauls (3-1, 7-3-2) will host E.E. Smith (0-4-1) on Monday in a non-conference matchup. Whiteville is now 0-3 in the Southeastern Conference and 2-10-2 overall. The Pack will host Red Springs (2-1, 7-6) on Monday.
In Lake Waccamaw, East Columbus fell to Hobbton 10-2. The Wildcats stay in first place with the win, pushing their Carolina Conference record to 4-0-1 and 5-6-1 overall. The Gators go to 2-3 in the conference and 4-5 on the season.
Hobbton hosts Union (4-2, 8-5) Monday, as East Columbus goes to East Bladen (3-1-1, 6-4-3).
