Tabor City Chamber of Commerce
Your Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce would like to offer a huge congratulations to Leroy Boyd on receiving the “Juanita Cook Miss Puddin’ ‘N Pie Spirit Award” from the N.C. Yam Festival Association. The award was presented this past Thursday afternoon by Tiger Tater, our beloved mascot.
Mr. Leroy was tapped as the “Official Driver of the N.C. Yam Festival Parade Grand Marshal” over a decade ago. He served in that capacity even before having that title bestowed upon him.
Tiger Tater was the first recipient of this award, which is named after the Yam Festival’s first mascot, lovingly known as the Yam Lady or Miss Puddin’ ‘N Pie. She was excited and gave her AOk when passing the torch … We mean the TATER … to Tiger Lovette as the Yam Man or Tiger Tater as so many know him. There was no one better suited to present this award than our Tiger.
If you happen to see Mr. Leroy around town, give him a huge and well-deserved congratulations. He might like a hug, too.
Reminder: The N.C. Yam Festival Pageant deadline is Sept. 12. That’s this Friday. The contestants meeting is this this Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Tabor City Visitor Center from 6-7 p.m. You may pick up and turn in applications, ask questions, and get info.
For more Yam Fest information, forms, and more, please visit their website at www.ncyamfestival.com. The website undergoes periodic updates. If you’re looking for something you don’t readily see, please call the Yam Fest Office at 910.377.3248 or the Manager’s cell phone at 910.840.0292.
The N.C. Yam Festival is looking at a new event: a Dog Walk. We are gathering information and trying to make it happen for this year’s festival. If we can’t get it ready for this year, maybe next year. We know you understand that we have to make sure all I’s are dotted and all T’s are crossed.
