A toddler is recovering and her parents have been charged with misdemeanor child abuse after she was struck by a truck Wednesday.
Willow Sellers, 2, was transferred to UNC Hospitals Thursday. The child ran into the path of a pickup on Green’s Mill Road around 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to Highway Patrol Trooper Christopher Cannady.
Willow’s parents, Brittany Nobles and Shula Sellers, were fishing on a bridge when the incident occurred around 8 p.m. Cannady said Travis Ransom, 42, slowed down when he saw the family’s car parked on the bridge. He was traveling around 40 miles per hour when the girl ran into his path and was struck a “glancing blow”, the trooper said.
“The driver was not at fault in any way,” Cannady said.
The child was knocked unconscious and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries, Cannady said. Her parents transported her to Columbus Regional for treatment.
Cannady said another couple was fishing on the other side of the bridge, and Willow may have been following her father when he went to help the other anglers.
Nobles and Sellers were cited for misdemeanor child abuse.
