
ELIZABETHTOWN — Rain and lightning were not kind to the teams of Hobbton and East Bladen as weather halted the game Friday, 14-12 with East Bladen leading with 7:16 in the third quarter.
The game is scheduled to continue from the point it started on Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Lenon Fisher Stadium.
This game was set to feature some of the best players in a 2A backfield. Hobbton has Amir Tate at running back, who has amassed 463 yards and six touchdowns behind three straight games of 100 yards Wildcat QB Reginald Thompson has run for five touchdowns and 502 yards this season. The Eagles’ Dashon Campbell has taken six touchdowns to the house with 540 yards while his teammate Jaden Lewis has 603 yards on the season to go with his eight touchdowns.
Lightning delayed the start of the game 25 minutes and halted the game again for an hour after a couple of plays on Hobbton’s first drive. Play resumed and nobody got in the end zone during the first quarter. Things picked up in the second quarter when QB Reginald Thompson found the end zone from nine yards out to put the Wildcats up 6-0. Hobbton failed on the two-point conversion.
East Bladen drove the ball down the field to the Wildcat 30-yard line before the drive stalled, with 2:00 left on the clock in the second period. The Wildcats took advantage of getting the ball back with a 71-yard touchdown run by Amir Tate to give them a 12-0 advantage with 1:17 left on the clock. East Bladen got on the board with 12 seconds on the clock with a two-yard run by Dashon Campbell to make it 12-6 at the half. The Eagles failed on the two-point conversion.
East Bladen took the opening kickoff in the third quarter and drove the ball 75 yards on eight plays to put the Eagle ahead 14-12. Keyshaun Kemp was the beneficiary of the touchdown with a four-yard run and Kemp converted the two-point conversion. Play was then halted for good at 7:16 left in the third quarter. It was then decided to complete the game at a later time.
East Bladen (1-0, 4-1) will go to North Duplin (0-1, 4-1) next Friday in a Carolina Conference battle. Hobbton (0-1, 2-3) travels to Union (0-1, 2-3) on Oct. 3.
