Here’s today’s Bottom Line
High pressure remains in control of our weather. This high will slip to our east and offshore allowing a flow of hotter and more humid air to move into the area. Temperatures will be a few ticks either side of 90 today, but will rise into the lower and middle 90s for Friday and Saturday.
A cold front crosses the area this weekend. The latest guidance shows this front moving through late Saturday with little fanfare. Moisture doesn’t really spike until Sunday afternoon when thunderstorms become possible as cooler air starts to flood in from the northwest.
Dramatically cooler temperatures kick off the next work week as the front stalls offshore. High pressure builds down from the northwest, but that front loitering offshore could bring a few scattered showers Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
TROPICS: The system that will likely become Gabrielle continues to move into an area that is very favorable for development. The NHC now gives this an 80% chance of becoming a tropical system.
Where she goes is up for some debate as modeling paints two scenarios. One carries this system into the Caribbean, while the other curves her northward over the open Atlantic. There’s also the possibility of something in between, one in which the storm moves up the coast.
A lot of this will have to do with the placement of the frontal boundary that moves through here. The front is expected to linger along the coast… but will it “wash out” before having the chance to influence this tropical system…? Will it push far enough south (with high pressure building in behind it) that it pushes the storm into the Caribbean? Lots to consider, and lots of time to watch this. No threat to the Carolinas for at least the next week-plus.
