DUBLIN — West Bladen got things cranked up using the defense to pace the Knights to a 32-6 romp over Union Friday night.

A 17-yard pick six from Keon Whittington with 2:03 left in the first quarter got them on board first to give West Bladen the early lead. Jonah Bryan’s extra point made it 7-0 West Bladen. The score remained that way until Devan Stanley ran the ball in from one yard out to make the score 13-0. The Knights failed on the PAT.
Union took the opening drive down to the West Bladen 14, only to fumble the ball to the Knights. The Knights proceeded to march down the field, culminating with a touchdown run nine yards out from Ahmarie White. Bryan connected on the PAT to give West Bladen a 20-0 lead with 16 seconds to go in the third quarter.

Early in the fourth period, the Spartans got on the board with a 10 yard run from Derik Aycock to cut the Knight lead to 20-6. West Bladen responded with another Ahmarie White touchdown, this time from nine yards out. The PAT failed to make the score 26-6. Isaiah Robinson scored from seven yards out to make the score 32-6.
“It was a great win,” stated West Bladen coach Preston Worley. “We have a lot to improve on and get better at. We have become more fundamentally sound on offensive and defensive before conference play starts. We struggled early on and faced some adversity, but we rallied together and settled down and got the job done.”
West Bladen was stingy on defense, holding the Spartans to 148 yards total offense. The Knights grounded out 305 yards rushing, led by Sincere McKinley with 168 yards on eight carries. Ahmarie White also had 79 yards rushing on 19 carries to go with his two touchdowns. Isaiah Robinson contributed 66 yards and a touchdown. Union was led by Tobias Cromartie with 85 yards on 18 carries.

West Bladen (2-3) will travel to Whiteville (3-2) next week for the Southeastern Conference opener for both squads. Union (2-2) will travel to Lake Waccamaw to face off against the Gators of East Columbus Sept. 26.
