
LAKE WACCAMAW — East Columbus went into Friday night’s game hoping to build on last week’s win, but the Wolfpack were not going to let that happen.
Whiteville took control early and cruised to a 44-0 victory over the Gators.
East Columbus got off to a bad start when they got a safety early in the first quarter to give the Pack a 2-0 lead. Jake Odham returned the free kick 54 yards to put the Pack up 8-0.
Price Wheatley kicked the PAT with 9:03 left in the first quarter to make it 9-0. Whiteville got the ball back and made it 16-0 on a one-yard TD run from Sebeyhon Shipman and a Wheatley PAT. The Wolfpack continued to mount up points in the quarter when Layton McLean hit A. J. Monroe for a 14 yard touchdown pass.
Wheatley added the extra point and that gave Whiteville a 23-0 lead with 3:00 minutes left in the first quarter.
Things continued to go south for the Gators when Layton McLean hit Corey Faison with a 38-yard touchdown pass with 10:57 left in the second quarter. Wheatley added the PAT to make it Whiteville 30-0.
Whiteville continued its point barrage when Sam McBride ran the ball in from two yards out with 5:21 left in the second quarter. Wheatley added the extra point to make it 37-0. The final score of the night came when Jaya Smith ran an East Columbus fumble in from 15 yards out with 3:30 left in the half. Price Wheatley added the PAT to make it 44-0 Wolfpack.
Whiteville, now 3-1 on the season, will host Clinton (1-3) Friday. East Columbus (1-3) starts Carolina Conference play next Friday when the Gators will travel to Hobbton (1-3).
