Whiteville Wallops Eagles 38-14

The Pack sent the Eagles home hurting Friday night, 38-14.

WHITEVILLE—The Whiteville Wolfpack took East Bladen’s miscues and turned them into points that led to the Wolfpack defeating the Eagles 38-14 Friday.

The Wolfpack made a statement early by taking the opening drive for a 15-play, 54-yard drive to go up 7-0. Sabeyhon Shipman ran it in from two yards out and Price Wheatley kicked the extra point for the score with 5:38 left in the first quarter. The Eagles responded with a nine-play, 61-yard drive capped off by Riley Collins from three yards out to make the score 7-6 Wolfpack. The two-point conversion failed.

After a 31-yard field goal from Price Wheatley to make the score 10-6 in the second quarter, Whiteville took over on its next possession with Shipman scoring from 16 yards out to give the Pack a 17-6 lead, with the Wheatley PAT.

East Bladen fumbled four plays into its next possession, only to have Layton McLean hit Teron Legette for a 27-yard touchdown pass. Wheatley’s extra point gave the Wolfpack a 24-6 lead at the half.

East Bladen fumbled on its first play from scrimmage in the third quarter. Two plays later, Whiteville’s Josh Lacewell ran it in from nine yards out and Price Wheatley added the extra point to make it 31-6 Wolfpack with under one minute gone in the third quarter.

The Eagles responded with a seven-play 71 yard drive of their own, capped by Dashon Campbell’s three-yard touchdown. Keyshawn Kemp hit Jaden Lewis for a pass to convert the two-pointer, making the score 31-14 Whiteville.

Whiteville took their next drive and marched down the field going 61 yards on 13 plays scoring on a three-yard run from Shipman. The PAT by Wheatley made it 38-14. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles failed to put it in the end zone and the final score was 38-14 Whiteville.

Whiteville, led by Sabeyhon Shipman’s three touchdowns, go to 2-1 on the year. They will go to county rival East Columbus (1-2) next Friday. The Eagles (2-1) will host Clinton (1-2) at Lennon Fisher Stadium Sept. 12.
