WHITEVILLE– Whiteville continued its momentum Monday with a 2-1 win over Red Springs. The Pack has been hot of late, winning six out of its last seven matches.
The loss was costly for the Red Devils, as it ended a chance to tie South Brunswick (6-2, 10-7-3) for the regular season title. The Wolfpack finishes the regular season with a 5-3 record in the Southeastern Conference and 8-11-2 overall, tied with the Red Devils for second place. Marco Tellez scored the only goal for Red Springs in the loss, assisted by Geraldo Marin Amaya.
Red Springs finishes the regular season 5-3 in the conference and 10-8 overall. Both teams are in good shape to make the 3A playoffs. The pairings are to be announced Sunday.
The weather has wrought havoc on the 2A Carolinas Conference soccer tournament this week. The games are rescheduled for Wednesday and the championship is planned for Thursday.
