Residents at two homes in the 13000 block of Old Lake Road reported damage from gunfire over the weekend. One bullet penetrated a home’s exterior wall, and a vehicle at a nearby address was also hit. Witnesses said there was gunfire at a gathering place across the road from the homes, and gunfire was heard in that area. The case is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

State officials said Monday that SNAP food benefits will be paused November 1 if the federal government shutdown is not ended. The Health Department announced last week that the WIC program will be continued through November. North Carolinians use around $230 million in SNAP benefits monthly. State attorney General Jeff Jackson announced Tuesday that he is filing a lawsuit against the federal government to force release of SNAP funds.
