UNION — East Bladen used its ground attack to chew up 299 yards in its victory over Union High 38-0 Friday night.
East Bladen scored first to take a 6-0 lead with 14 seconds left in the first quarter as Dashon Campbell ran it in from one yard out to put the Eagles ahead 6-0. Jaden Lewis added a three-yard touchdown early in the second quarter to make it 14-0 East Bladen with the two point conversion. Later in the second quarter, Keyshawn Kemp took it across the goal line from 11 yards away. The two-point conversion gave the Eagles 22-0 advantage at the half.
Dashon Campbell added to the Eagles lead in the third quarter as he found the end zone again, this time from six yards out. Julius Battle put the final touchdown on the scoreboard when he picked up a fumble and ran it to the house from 62 yards away to make it 38-0 still in the third quarter. With the sportsmanship rules, the game was run the rest of the way with a non-stopping clock.
Dashon Campbell ran for 63 yards and two scores while Jaden Lewis added 73 yards rushing and a touchdown. Keyshawn Kemp contributed 51 yards on seven carries with a touchdown in the win.
The Eagles defense was stingy again, only allowing 107 yards on the ground. Union got 91 yards rushing on 21 carries from Tobias Cromartie in the losing effort. Union (0-5, 2-7) will go to Cerro Gordo and take on the West Columbus Vikings (1-4, 2-7) in the Carolina Conference regular season final for both squads.
With the win East Bladen concluded its regular season 4-2 in the Carolina Conference and 7-3 overall. The Eagles will finish third behind Hobbton (5-0, 6-3) and North Duplin (5-0, 8-1), who will play each other for the conference championship Oct. 31.
The irony is that the Eagles are ahead of both in the 2A rankings as of right now. East Bladen is number 16 and Hobbton is currently 17 while North Duplin has the 18 spot.
Depending on the final week results, the Eagles will have a first round bye or host a first round game. Union is ranked number 42 and would make the 2A playoffs as of right now.
