Soccer Roundup: Knights Win Two, Eagles Tie, Gators and Vikings Fall

West Bladen got two key victories over South Columbus and Red Springs this week, positioning itself for a playoff spot.

On Tuesday they defeated South Columbus Tuesday 7-1 and downed top seed Red Springs 6-1 on Wednesday. The Knights, 3-3 in the Southeastern Conference and 5-9-1 overall, were led by Diego Santos with the hat trick against the Stallions. Jonah Bryan and Alejandro Lopez scored two goals apiece also in the rout. The Stallion are now 0-6 in the conference and 1-14 overall.

West Bladen continued the offensive juggernaut the Wednesday with an upset over Red Springs 7-1. The loss pushed the Red Devils (4-2, 9-7) down into second place in the conference behind South Brunswick (5-2, 9-7-3). Jonah Bryan led the assault with four goals and two assists for the Knights. The Knights will travel to South Columbus on Monday.

In Rose Hill Wednesday, East Bladen played Union to a 3-3 tie in double overtime. The Carolina Conference in men’s soccer is a logjam at the top with only one and a half games separating the top four squads.

Jayce Hatcher scored two goals for the Eagles and Ishaq Algozy added one in the tie. Union tied the match with 2:10 left to tie the score. East Bladen is now tied for second with a 5-2-2 conference record and 8-5-4 overall.

There are some key conference matches scheduled between the top four teams in the next few days. The Eagles will travel to Lakewood (6-3-1, 6-10-1) on Monday. Union (6-2-2, 11-6-2) travels to Hobbton (7-1-1 8-7-1) October 16.

Hobbton took care of West Columbus 9-0 Wednesday. The Vikings fall to 0-10 in the conference and 0-11 for the year. Hobbton (7-1-1, 8-7-1) is in first place currently in the Carolina Conference. They will go to The Swamp to face East Columbus on Monday.

East Columbus fell to Lakewood 9-2 Wednesday. The Gators are now 3-5-2 in the Carolina Conference and 5-7-2 overall. They will play Hobbton on Monday. Lakewood host North Duplin in a key soccer match today in the Carolina Conference.
