Here’s today’s Bottom Line

It’s going to be a pretty nice day today thanks to high pressure firmly in control. Expect bright blue sunny skies with highs in the mid 60s.

There’ll be no tricks for this evening’s activities. Once the sun goes down, the temperature will go down well into the 50s through the evening hours.

FROST POTENTIAL EARLY SATURDAY

Temperatures will bottom out in the upper 30s early Saturday morning, within about half an hour of sunrise. The temperature will be cold enough in some spots for frost to form. The graphic above shows how frost forms at the surface when the air temperature at eye level is about 37 degrees. The 37-degree-mark is the “magic number.” Temps cool to about 31-32 degrees at the surface level and invisible water molecules freeze. The colder the temperature at eye level, the harder the frost. If we have any frost early Saturday, it should be patchy in nature… at this time I don’t think we’ll have a widespread killing frost (although the National Weather Service may issue a frost advisory for portions of the area for late tonight).

High pressure remains in control Saturday and Sunday, but a weak frontal boundary will slip through late Sunday night. Bright sunshine on Saturday and most of Sunday will give way to some increase in cloudiness later Sunday afternoon.

There’s a slight chance for a few spotty light rain showers with the frontal passage late Sunday night.

Sunshine and dry high pressure returns on Monday, lasting well into next week.

Don’t forget to set the clocks back Saturday night!

TROPICS:  Melissa will give Bermuda a glancing blow before accelerating into the colder waters in the northern latitudes, becoming non-tropical by Saturday evening.

There are no tropical threats to the Carolinas for the foreseeable future, and no other areas are being monitored at this time by the National Hurricane Center. The hurricane season continues until the end of November.
