Here’s today’s Bottom Line
Dry weather continues through the next 7 days. We had a cold front sweep through late last evening. That is now off the coast, and we have a north to northwest wind flow over the area today. Highs will struggle to reach 70 with the full sunshine.
Radiational cooling is the feature for tonight as with crystal clear skies, any ground warmth quickly dissipates and our temps fall deep into the 40s. A few isolated spots may dip down to as low as 40 degrees by early Tuesday morning.
Those temps rebound nicely, and Tuesday looks to be gorgeous with sunshine, highs in the mid 70s. “Get out and enjoy it.”
Another dry cold front moves through late Tuesday night or early Wednesday, reinforcing the slightly-below-normal temps through the rest of the work week.
TROPICS: All eyes are on the likely area of development in the Caribbean. This will probably become Melissa by the end of the work week.
Modeling suggests that this will take a very hard right-hand turn and move north/east, bringing significant impacts to Haiti and the Dominican Republic, before lifting away from land masses. This is shown here with the Google DeepMind model, which so far this season has outperformed the “legacy” modeling (GFS, Euro, etc.).
There is a “wall” of wind shear across the southeast U.S. This is intensifying and pushing toward the Gulf coast, and will work to squeeze the future-Melissa into a bit of a corner. This is likely to be the saving grace to Florida and the Gulf coast as the Caribbean system will become somewhat flattened. If things develop more slowly, however, the area of shear is likely to begin to break down over time… if Melissa hangs around longer, then all bets are off as to where she goes.
That being said, there are still no tropical threats to the Carolinas for the foreseeable future.
