
WHITEVILLE—Whiteville’s football team came out with a mission as they crushed South Brunswick 53-7 Friday night.
Whiteville moved to 2-0 in the Southeastern Conference and 5-2 overall with the victory.
The Pack didn’t waste much time putting points on the scoreboard as they took the opening kickoff from their own 18-yard line and marched down the field, with Emanuel Kemp running it in from the one-yard line. The failed extra point gave Whiteville a 6-0 lead with 11:05 left in the first quarter.
South Brunswick failed to advance the ball and surrendered the ball back to Whiteville. Whiteville took advantage and Layton McLean found Corey Faison from 17 yards out to put the Wolfpack up 13-0 with the Price Wheatley PAT. In the second quarter, the Cougars failed to muster any offense and punted the ball back to Whiteville. Sabeyhon Shipman took it in from one-yard out and Wheatley added the extra point to put the Pack ahead 20-0. Shipman found the end zone again with 30 seconds left in the half. Wheatley added the point after attempt to give Whiteville a 27-0 advantage at the intermission.
South Brunswick came out in the third quarter with life and marched the ball down the field, culminating with Jayden Daniels connecting with Amerius Revels from 20 yards out. Collin Peattie kicked the PAT to make the score 27-7 with 9:59 left in the third quarter.
Whiteville ended any momentum the Cougars had on the next drive when Emanuel Kemp crossed the end zone from one-yard out make it 33-7 Wolfpack. A.J. Monroe punched it in again foe the Pack with one minute left in the third quarter to make the score 40-7. Whiteville continued its offensive assault in the fourth quarter as Travionne Martin score again from five-yard out to make it 47-7 with the Wheatley PAT. Jaya Smith added a score with 2:00 left with a 60 yard fumble return to give Whiteville its final score on the night 53-7.
Whiteville will travel next Friday night to take on Fairmont (1-1, 1-6), fresh off a 12-7 upset of West Bladen that ended a 17-game losing streak.
South Brunswick falls to 1-1 in the Southeastern Conference and 4-3 overall with the loss. The Cougars will travel to Tabor City to face South Columbus (2-0, 4-3) Oct. 17.
