WHITEVILLE — Whiteville came back from a fourth quarter deficit to defeat Red Springs 33-28 Friday night.
The Red Devils possessed a 20-19 lead until early in the fourth quarter. Red Springs came into Whiteville ready to play as they took the early lead on the Wolfpack as Chase Boone found Taquan Ellerbe Jr. in the end zone from 26 yards out to put the Red Devils on top with 32 seconds left in the first quarter.
Marco Tellez added the extra point to make it 7-0 Red Springs. Whiteville tied the game up as Sabeyhon Shipman

took it in from four yards out to tie the game at 7-7, with the Price Wheatley extra point.
Red Springs retaliated with a seven-play drive, capped off with a Boone 37-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Lowery with 4:30 left in the second quarter. Marco Tellez hit the PAT to give Red Springs a 14-7 advantage. Whiteville scored just before the half as Layton McLean connected with Tylae Rose from 16 yards out to make it 14-13 at the half.
Whiteville took the lead with just over six minutes gone in the third quarter when Shipman ran it in from 15 yards away to give the Pack a 19-14 lead. Red Springs then used its special teams for offense as they blocked a Wolfpack punt and ran it in from 20 yards out to put the Devils ahead 20-19 going into the fourth quarter. The Wolfpack offense was up to the task of coming through as they marched down the field, capped off by a McLean to Corey Faison 14-yard touchdown pass.
Sabeyhon Shipman added the two-point conversion, giving Whiteville a 27-20 lead with 9:04 left on the clock. Red Springs was forced to punt on their next drive and the Pack extended their lead to 33-20 when Shipman crossed the goal line for the third time from two yards out. QB Chase Boone rushed it in from three yards out with under a minute to play to make the final score 33-28 with the two-point conversion.
With the win, Whiteville is guaranteed at least a tie for the Southeastern Conference title. A win next week for the Wolfpack (4-0, 7-2) at South Columbus (3-1, 5-4) would give them the championship outright. A Stallion win would cause a possible three-way tie including South Brunswick (3-1, 6-3), dependent on them defeating West Bladen next Friday.
