Singers of all levels of talent and enthusiasm are welcome to join in an international celebration of song Saturday at Lake Waccamaw.
The Lake Waccamaw Depot Museum Acoustic Jam Session and the Southeastern Oratorio Society will host World Singing Day at 11 a.m. This is the second year for the event, and Lake Waccamaw is the only place in North and South Carolina observing World Singing Day this year.
Since it began in 2011 in Boulder, Co., the event is now held globally each year on the third Saturday of October. Events will be held in 24 nations and 42 locations across the United States.
The purpose is to draw attention to the powerful benefits of group singing, even in a casual, non-rehearsed setting.
Lyric sheets will be handed out at the event, including for the World Singing Day song of the year. Those wishing to participate in our “World Singing Day” merely need to show up and be ready to sing with the group at 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., along with the Jam Session musicians. There is no charge to participate. More information can be found on Facebook at Lake Waccamaw Depot Museum.
