On November 17, Brunswick County Commissioners approved transferring funds for a new Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protection Services facility to expand the current housing capacity.
The board voted 4-1 to move $650,000 from the county’s Capital Reserve undesignated funds toward an agreement with Myers & Chapman, Inc. for the first step in the project. The contractor, hired for about $639,000, will begin by designing the facility, followed by construction. The new 10,000-square-foot building will be located just north of the existing APS site at 429 Green Swamp Road in Supply, North Carolina, and will help meet the needs of the county’s growing population.
Plans also include a driveway, parking lot, pedestrian walk, and access ways for both the new and existing facilities. BCAPS takes in an average of 4,000 animals each year, including dogs, cats, horses, and donkeys, with intake surpassing 4,115 by the mid-fourth quarter of 2025.
