Candy For Pain Relief?  5 Sweet Solutions Compared

What if you could cure your pains by reaching for some candy? Chronic pain sufferers with a sweet tooth may be in luck. While your average candy might not do much for your aches, there are some options that are infused with natural analgesic ingredients and pain-numbing compounds that can be tasty alternatives to popping a pill. From gummies and lozenges, here are a few different candy-like solutions to try.

CBD/THC gummies for general pain

CBD and THC are two chemical compounds derived from the cannabis plant which can have pain-relieving qualities. Both ingredients can be consumed in the form of gummies that are available in different fruity flavors. CBD is more widely legal as it doesn’t produce the ‘high’ of cannabis. THC does have the psychoactive properties and therefore isn’t as freely available, although many states now do permit its sale. You can shop for different varieties of THC gummies at online dispensaries.

Throat lozenges for a sore throat

Sometimes referred to as ‘cough sweets’, lozenges are candies that are designed to ease a sore throat. They contain ingredients like menthol, eucalyptus and benzocaine that have numbing qualities. When you suck them, they also stimulate saliva production, helping to further soothe the throat. Some people swear by these over-the-counter candies and find that they can help relieve soreness in minutes.

Ginger candy for stomach pain and nausea

Ginger has been used for centuries as a remedy for digestive issues. This is due to the unique anti-inflammatory compound called ‘gingerol’ found in this herb. Ginger can be used to ease forms of nausea like motion sickness and morning sickness, as well as easing stomach cramps. There are several candy sweets containing ginger that you can buy that are designed to help with an upset stomach. Their spicy flavor isn’t for everyone though, and consuming too many of these candies may cause heartburn in some people.

Peppermint candy for stomach pain and nausea

Another herbal ingredient that can potentially fight a stomach ache is peppermint. Menthol found in peppermint has antispasmodic effects – which means it can help relax muscles in the gut wall. For people with IBS, it can be particularly effective at relieving cramps. You can find many peppermint-flavored candy treats on the market. Many people find this candy to be more refreshing than ginger candy, but as with ginger, you need to be careful as to how much you consume – acid reflux could be a side effect.

Dark chocolate for inflammation

Dark chocolate is actually full of antioxidants and some studies have found that it can have anti-inflammatory effects. If you suffer from joint pain or muscle pain, consider a bite of dark chocolate and see if it has any impact in relieving your aches. It is worth noting that dark chocolate is not nearly as potent as anti-inflammatory painkillers like ibuprofen. Its caffeine content also makes it less suitable for taking before bed for those who get pain at night.

Wrapping things up…

None of these candies are miracle pain-relievers, however they are all worth trying for targeted pain relief. If you’re on other medication, check with your doctor that none of these candy supplements will interfere.
