Columbus County remains under an increased wildfire danger, due to low humidity and strong gusty winds. The forest service and fire marshal encourage anyone with outdoor burning plans to hold off for a day or two until conditions improve. The county remains in the abnormally dry category on the state drought monitor, although drought conditions are spreading in neighboring counties. No significant rainfall is expected for the next week.
The Health Department has a limited supply of free Narcan. Anyone may pick up a dosage anonymously at the front desk. The treatments come with instructions on proper use.
A runaway teen is still missing, according to the sheriff’s office. Kira Elise Ramsey, age 16, was last seen in the Whiteville area. She is a white female with dark hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing jeans with holes, a black hoodie and Crocs. She voluntarily left her residence November 5 with someone in a silver SUV.
