K9 Officer Zena will soon be patrolling the halls of Columbus County City and County Schools. The drug and gun sniffing K9 was paid for by an anonymous donor to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office. The cost of the dog’s care and training will be split between the sheriff’s office and the schools.
The Real Whiteville Santa will not be returning to his uptown Little House this year, In a social media post, Santa said he has decided to step down as the official local representative for the Jolly Old Elf due to his health. No word yet on if he will have a replacement. Santa – thank you, sir, for decades of service to the community.
Winter Basketball Registration ends December 7 for the 2026 Whiteville Parks and Rec season. Cost is $15 for city residents, $25 for children who live in the county. The league is open to players 5-16 years old. A birth certificate is required at registration. Call 910.642.9052
