Comments Sought on Hospital Project

Columbus Regional Health Care

Comments are being sought on a proposed new hospital planned for eastern Columbus County.

Columbus Regional Healthcare System has filed a certificate of need application with the N.C. Dept. of Health and Human Services to relocate 30 acute care beds and one operating room from the Whiteville campus to develop a new hospital in Delco.

The facility will be called Columbus Regional East, and will be located on the former Acme-Delco Middle School property.

The project is expected to cost $214.7 million and would be completed in October 2029.

A public hearing for this project will be held Dec. 19, at 10:30 a.m. in the meeting room of the Columbus County Public Library, 407 N. J.K. Powell Blvd. in Whiteville.

Anyone may file written comments concerning this proposal. Comments must be received by the Healthcare Planning and Certificate of Need Section no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 1.
