District Attorney Jon David will not seek reelection.

David said Tuesday that he will not sign up for another term in office when candidate filing starts Monday. He endorsed Jenna Earley, the lead assistant district attorney for the prosecutorial district, in her bid for the Republican nomination,

“When I entered public service almost three decades ago,” David said in a press release, “ I never imagined the profound personal and professional fulfillment this calling would bring. Serving as your District Attorney has been the greatest honor and privilege of my life, a role that has allowed me to be a voice for victims and to live each day with purpose.”

David was the first Republican to win the office in more than 30 years when he took office in 2011. He said Earley is more than qualified for the role.

“I am honored to endorse Jenna Earley as the next District Attorney of Bladen, Brunswick, and Columbus Counties,” he wrote. “Jenna serves as our First Assistant District Attorney and has previously led both our Columbus and Brunswick offices with exceptional skill. She has also handled some of the biggest cases in Bladen County during her extensive tenure in our organization. Jenna has earned the trust and admiration of everyone she works with, both within our office and across the justice system. I have absolute confidence that she is ready to take on the responsibilities of District Attorney and excel.” David previously served as assistant prosecutor for his brother Ben David in New Hanover County.
