James Edwin Hammond

July 30, 1980 ~ November 2, 2025 (age 45)

James Edwin Hammond, age 45, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Bolivia, NC.  He was born on July 30, 1980 in Wilmington to Sandra Horrell Hammond and the late Edwin Thomas Hammond.  In addition to his father, James is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; James and Thara Horrell, and paternal grandparents; James Dennis and Elizabeth Dae Hammond.

James was a graduate of East Columbus High School and received a Fine Arts degree from Cape Fear Community College.

He was employed by Novant Health New Hanover Primary Care in Brunswick Forest.  He loved his work family.  James was a member of Riegelwood Baptist church.  He served as chairman of the Board of Directors of Riegelwood Sanitary District for several years.

He is survived by his loving mother; Sandra Horrell Walsh and his second dad; Bobby Walsh of Riegelwood, NC, his Godson; Shea Corbett of Wilmington whom he loved with all his heart and Shea’s mother; Danielle Aldrich, sister; Donna Hammond of Riegelwood, bonus sister; Katrina Smith (Clay) of Winnabow, bonus brother; Michael Walsh (Charlotte) of Wilmington, niece; Kayla Coleman (Rico) of Riegelwood, Nephews; Tommy Justice (Angel) of Riegelwood, Charles Justice also of Riegelwood, Patrick Justice of Asheville, and Dallas Justice, 2 aunts; Marian Jackson of Rose Hill and Phyllis Lanier (Bertice) of Maple Hill, uncle; Jason Horrell (Gayle) of Walnut Cove, NC, special friends from childhood; Shelley Stallings, Danielle Aldrich and Jamie Aldrich who were with him to the end.  He had lots of nieces and nephews.

James grew up in the village of Riegelwood and he loved his community.  He loved the history and preserving the land in the village.  James also enjoyed the knowledge and wisdom passed on to him from the people of the community.

He enjoyed traveling and especially to the west coast.

Services will be conducted Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 2:00 pm with Rev. Cameron Lewis and Kenneth Thorton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Riegelwood Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Lanier, Alicia Jones, Brent Corbett, Ryan Thorton, Patrick Justice, Jamie Aldrich, Tommy Justice and Charles Justice.
