The remains of a Clarkton man who disappeared in March 2021 have been identified in Laurinburg.
Brandon McDonald disappeared March 25, 2021. His wrecked vehicle was later found in Laurinburg. The skeletal remains were found over the course of several days beginning Friday, according to media reports.
Dena Cox, McDonald’s mother, said it’s a “bittersweet moment.
“Now we can bring him home,” she said. “That’s what we have been praying for, and God answered in His own time.
McDonald was supposed to meet his father to run errands on the morning he disappeared. Law enforcement and volunteers searched areas in Clarkton, Laurinburg and elsewhere looking for the missing man.
The CUE Center for Missing Persons erected a billboard on N.C. 211 in Clarkton and conducted several searches for McDonald.
The owner of a Laurinburg property near McDonald’s last known location called law enforcement after finding a possible human bone.
The remains were taken to the state medical examiner’s office, where they were positively identified Tuesday.
Michael Bethea Jr., Shelena Clark and Lakeithan Tyson were arrested last year for murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and concealment of a death, according to the State Bureau of Investigation. They are being held in the Scotland County Detention Center.
Bladen and Scotland detectives and the SBI investigated the case, which is still considered active.
“It’s like Christmas at Thanksgiving,” Cox said. “God put someone in the right place at the right time to find him. Now he can rest.”
