October was a big month for Egamblers in North Carolina, as they placed more than $811 million in online bets.
The state Lottery Commission released its October numbers today (Nov. 12). Between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31, account holders in North Carolina wagered $811,436,254 on sporting events, including paid and promotional wagers. From those wagers, account holders won $728,965,901.
There are six licensed online gaming concerns in North Carolina. Gamblers can place bets on sporting events after opening an account with the providers.
State law provides for an 18 percent tax on gross wagering revenue. The $78,145,630 in gross to the providers netted the state $14,066,214 for the month.
October marked the second month of increased activity with the online gambling concerns. September revenues were up slightly after the “summer slump,” with $686 million in wagers, $615 million in winnings and $12 million going to the state.
