Tabor Talk for Nov. 19

By Cynthia Nelson

Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce

We sure are getting close to Thanksgiving. It seems like each year we tend to move into Christmas right after Halloween.  Nothing wrong with that at all folks.  We just enjoy observing Thanksgiving.

We have to begin preparing for and promoting Christmas in early November, but we do want to pause that for a second so we can focus on the things for which we are truly thankful.

Things we are thankful for:

  • Living in a small town. While it may not be for everybody we do have those who love the way of life that small town living brings.
  • Shopping small and shopping local. We like giving back to those businesses that support all of the “things” in Tabor City.  Keep that in mind as you shop!
  • We are grateful for our chamber members.
  • We are thankful for every business even those who have not joined your hometown Chamber…yet. Or joined and did not renew.  We understand that while the majority reaps loads of benefits, it just doesn’t feel as good to others.  That’s okay—we try to share our holiday promotions with everyone and not just limit it to members.
  • We are your chamber so please reach out to us to share your negative take on things as much as the positive. That’s how we learn and grow

We hope our entire community has the best Thanksgiving EVER!  Be sure to tell others they are appreciated.

Next up for the Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce is the Fall Crawl to Shop Our Stores on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 29 from 9-1.  Shoppers, please pick up your special “Shop Our Stores” bag from the Chamber Tent at the Crafts Fair located at Truist Bank.  Remember that you must visit each store on the list to be eligible to be entered in the Grand Prize drawing.

Yes, that’s the same Saturday the Chamber will host the Annual Christmas Crafts Fair in the Truist Bank parking lot from 9-2.

On Thursday, Dec. 4, the Town of Tabor City will host the 33rd Annual Christmas Parade through the Lights.  We look forward to that and it sure is a lovely sight to see.  Wonder how many units it will consist of this year!

Immediately following the completion of the Christmas Parade, our Chamber will host the Annual Tree Lighting. The tree was gifted to the Town of Tabor City some 25 years ago to use as the Town’s Christmas Tree.  It was planted and donated in memory of a Dirt Daubers Garden Club member who was near and dear to their hearts.  Her legacy lives on in the heart of our beloved Tabor City.

Parade, Santa, lots of children, snow flurries, warm bowl of chili, cup of hot cocoa, and tree lighting ceremony with entertainment!  You will not want to miss it, then go skating on the Town’s Ice Rink at Garrell Depot.  More fun on Friday with the Cookie Crawl, free hot dogs in the snow, then go skate some more!

As always, the GTC Chamber of Commerce is your chamber.  We look forward to serving our community.  This is a membership driven organization.  We would love to have you join the GTC Chamber of Commerce family.  Simply give us a call and together we will make that happen: 910.377.3012. Remember that memberships must be renewed annually to remain a member continuously.  The fees to join are kept to a minimal.  They have only increased once in 30 years and that was by a mere $25.

We love sharing sales and other promotional information for our members.  When calls come in for a particular type of business, service, or organization, we recommend our members and share the contact information to send them your way.

The days and hours of operation are Tuesday thru Thursday from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Should you need assistance outside of these days and hours, please call our Executive Vice President at 910.840.0292.

Remember that “Opportunity Awaits” and we remain “Stronger Together”.
