The frigid forecast for Monday has led both county and city school systems to delay the starting bell Monday.
Columbus County and Whiteville City Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Monday due to expected low wind chill temperatures.

Record low wind chills of -5 degrees are possible Monday morning.
Residents are encouraged to bring pets indoors, wrap pipes, cover exposed faucets and allow spigots to trickle to avoid freezing. Empty and secure outside hoses.
Only use heaters that are approved for indoor use, and always keep a three foot clear space around any space heater. Also, do not plug electric space heaters into power strips or extension cords.
